Ok, so, i picked up a little game called splatter house.
To put it simply, it is AWESOME.
OK, to break it down in detail, it's a 3d action game set in a creepy mansion at first that stars you playing a buffed out killer wearing a mask, only you are actually a normal college kid who put the mask on out of desperation and it turned you into the HULK to help you save your girlfriend. There, story covered.
The game itself is basicly this.
God of War except you use your Bare Fists and Improvised Weapons.
Yes, it is that bloody, yes, it is that brutal, and yes, it looks that awesome.
Don't mistake that for me compariing the games as a whole, in terms of story and scale, Splatter house isn't of the same nature, it's a much more focus affair and really knows what it's aiming to be. It's a B rate slasher/Monster mash flick turned into a game and Taken up to eleven. It pulls no punchs in it's visual style and it's combat is as brutal and bloody as you'd expect from this type of thing.
It has all the standard action game stuff you'd expect, light and heavy attacks, grabs, jumps, running attacks, upgradeable abilities, a Beserk mode that makes you an all powerful monster for a short time, and weapons.
What really sells its is the absolute brutality of the fighting, unlike Dante, the other dante, or Bayonetta, the hero of Splatter house, Rick Taylor, is not a gracefull or Balletic fighter. He's a brute, a power house, And his fighting style reflects this with bone breaking punchs, elbows, wrestling moves, grapples, and more. Rick does not pull punchs or toy with his enemy, he Pummels them into bloody chunks. If he does enough damage, he can finish an enemy off with a brutal "SplatterKill". It make for a fun, intense fighting system that really showcases the kinda power a hulking brute can generate.
Oh, and the boss battles are AWESOME to.
The other interesting aspect is that the character work is pretty good given the games B movie backgrounds. Particular credit is due to the awesome voice work for the Mask itself, which is not only a character, but the most interesting and funny character in the game. A sardarnic, Sadistic, Sarcastic commentator on the brutality of the action, as well as the main source of story information, the Mask is voiced by Master voice actor Jim cummings.
The other charecters, though having voice work of there own, aren't as well done or interesting as the Mask, with the possible exception of Doctor West, the games villian being well voiced and being portrayed as a Eccentric and completely insane yet suprisingly refined man of science. If not for the limited screen time, he'd probably be on the same level as the Mask.
Overall, Splatter house is an awesome game for action fans and fans of B horror movies and slasher films.
