How many times did the beat to a certain tune in a game fuel your motivation to get to the next save point? Or the melody in a game make you feel emotionally drawn to the scene on your screen? Alot of our focus tends to fall in the areas of realism and eye-popping graphical effects and alot less on the music, soundtracks and voice acting talent. Good reviewers will sometimes touch on these areas when dissecting the game they're reviewing but more often than not, these areas of a video game tend to get missed altogether.

When I play I know I pay alot of attention to what my character may be doing and how I will need to react and so forth. Alot of this is particularly normal for shooters or action games. But I've often found that whenever I feel moved by something that happens in a game, it's usually accompanied by great music. This is particularly so in RPGs when roleplaying is an important aspect of the gameplay or in games such as [I]Heavy Rain[/I], where particular scenes can be extremely immersive and emotionally involved. Imagine that same scene without music. It's a similar feeling when watching a movie. If the characters and voice actors are the body of the game, the music is its life-force.

Over the years I've collected a few soundtracks from some of the games that I've enjoyed playing. I am sure there are alot of gamers out there who have done the same. What are some of the soundtracks you've collected and why? What particular soundtrack or music has stood out for you in a video game? The first soundtrack I was ever really hooked on would have to be the Quake series and I think it started with Quake II and then just grew from there. I've also enjoyed music from various MMOs and RPGs that I've played such as Fable and Dragon Age.
