Just wanted to say hi. I know there are avid gamers on here just like me and probably share the same interest as I do. I have played video games since I was 9 starting with doom, and quake as my first. Yup pretty violent video game for a 9 year old haha. But I grew up fine and many of my friends know me as a soft person. I play both computer and console games but now I really don't have time to play as much as I use to.
I stumbled onto this forum while doing research on reasons why video games do not promote violent behavior, and why they have a positive influence on us. The reason I was looking for information to prove that video game isn't violent all that sort of thing is because someone in one of my classes said video games are a bad influence and invokes violent behaviors. This got me really mad since she made some really good points and got a whole bunch of people agreeing with her.
I have came up with several main points and I want to share them with you guys to defend video games:
1. Learning (such as in games like COD where it has WWII background)
2. Stress relief
3. Social interaction (more involvement in teamwork, team play, especially in computer games and the wii)
4. violence (counter argument to why it isn't)
Do these look like solid points? I had a hard time finding any other main points but tell me what you guys think of what I have so far. Anyway, I found myself a community and I will definitely be hanging around here.
