I picked Chromehounds up on a whim the other day, flushed from having actually made money from trading in Two Worlds ( I think the guy who served me wanted it for himself because it was the limited edition version..sucker) Anywho, I've played about half the campaign, which is really just a training mode for the online game, joined a squad who were really helpful, (gave me a wad of in game credit and a kickazz mech to play with) then disappeared not to be seen online these past two weeks... but never mind. Its not the greatest game I've played but the online is as near to tolerable as I've encountered in a shooter, and I really like the persistent war aspect, where you can just hop in and play against CPU or live enemies to advance your stats, and its just fun to grind down the oppositions control of an area for a few hours by playing bot battles. The gameplay is as basic as it comes but there's a fair bit of strategy involved, and actually a lot of luck, playing solo is a bit of a shell game as the enemy opponent spawns at a different base each match and often as a different class, so you have to make up your mind within a few minutes what course of action to take, either go out and try to find the enemy or take down their base or to hang back and defend your own base. Battling live opponents might be fun in an established squad, teamwork is essential, I've tried to take on other players head to head and had my arse unceremoniously handed to me, noob friendly it aint. There's also a good Mech building setup with a ton of parts and weapons to play with, the role types (classes) are unbalanced (hence the need for teamwork) but its possible to build a mech that will kill other Mechs as well as have the firepower to take down a base structure. Having been a bit restless with my gaming over the last few weeks its good to have something to settle into for a while, it may tide me over until the October/November releases.
