It is always a mixed bag when you read news about studies on gaming and their effects on kids.
Fortunately today is one of those days that you find the good one.
The University of Oklahoma is sponsoring a study on the effects of DDR on childhood obesity.
From what they have learned so far, is that kids who play DDR on a regular basis actually lose weight. Go figure.
What is the reason for this?
"The neat thing is that they had a lot of fun doing it, and they didn't consider it exercise, which was kind of the whole point — to exercise without feeling like they were torturing themselves on a treadmill,” Hester said.
Put me in that same camp. I hate exercise for the sake of it. I was at my healthiest weight when I rode my bike 5 miles to school and five miles back, worked in a warehouse where I lifted and carried windshields weighing up to 100 pounds.
Now I sit at a desk 8 hours a day. I commute 27 miles to work and then back again. I don't have the means to have a very active lifestyle now. I just can't bring myself to exercise for the sake of it.
