The Sierra Club is the latest group to propose a tax on video games and televisions with the procceds going to programs that encourage families to get off the couch and hike in the mountains.
Mike Casaus from the Sierra Club says, "What we would do with this excise tax on tvs and video games and this type of equipment is to tax part of the problem to fund the solution."
The Sierra Club believes that the bill would bring in about $4 million to be used on programs. The story is reported from KOB.com in New Mexico. It is unclear if the tax is being proposed in other states.
I have written the Sierra Club to give them a chance to show the reasons behind the tax. Lawmakers did kill the same idea last year, but it looks like the Sierra Club is going to give it another go.
