I'm trying to write my name out in katakana characters, and of course names with origins in Gaelic don't translate well phonetically to the list of sounds available with kana... ;)

So can anyone tell me if I've got this right?

Colin (pronounced koh-lyn): Korin - コリン
McInnes (pronouned mik-in-ess): Mikinesu - ミキンエス

Translating to kanji (to japanify the name from it's origin) is even harder. "Innes" is "river island" or "land between two rivers", so that works out to nakajima, or 中島, but "Mc" means "son of", and as far as I know, while "-ichi" is added to first names to denote "first son of -", there is no "son of" version for family names (how can a family be a son of a family, right?). Unfortunately it's not like the French "de" or the German "van", meaning "from", so I can't even use 村 ("of the village").

Any ideas?
As for "Colin", it's Gaelic for "dove", so that's easy. 鳩
