In Fall 2001, overwhelming interest in studying games sparked the creation of The Game Design Initiative at Cornell University (GDIAC). This organization is a group of students, faculty, alumni, and community members who are devoted to the establishment of game design as an academic discipline. GDIAC currently offers a Minor in Game Design that is available to all undergraduate students at Cornell.

In the Minor, students take three core courses in game design and development from the College of Computing and Information Sciences along with a choice of three other courses from a variety of fields: computer science and engineering, communication, animation, and visual studies. A unique aspect of GDIAC is that students may continue work through independent studies to expand project portfolios and explore cutting-edge game technology. We offer many other opportunities, such as mentorship, teaching assistant jobs, industry and university collaborations, company hosting, and more.
