SAN DIEGO: Too many of the county's video game retailers are selling games with violent or pro-drug content to minors, youth advocacy groups said yesterday.
During a two-month undercover survey of more than 60 stores countywide, 46 percent sold video games rated M for “Mature” to teens younger than 18, said Shontey Hambrick, adult adviser to the East County Youth Coalition.
The coalition conducted the survey with the National Institute on Media and Family and other youth organizations in the county.
Yesterday, those groups called on retailers to adhere to the rating system, institute formal training for employees, prominently display the rating system in stores and separate mature-themed video games from other games. –L.N.[/QUOTE]
