So right now I have two 512 sticks of Corsair DDR400 on my board. Somehow, my computer is still choking, so I decided to shoot for an upgrade.
I went to the store and bought two cheap 512 sticks of some other memory brand. I was told mixing brands wouldn't be a problem.
I put the sticks in, and I get a POST error, but wait, it gets better. I go look up the POST code and it says "1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps = Video Card not seated properly". Odd, my video card seems pretty damn well seated to me, especially considering I haven't ****ing touched it.
So I take the sticks out, and the machine POSTs fine. I swap out the Corsair sticks for the other two, POSTs fine.
So I go return the sticks. I'm told that Corsair ram can be pretty picky and that the Kingston sticks might do the trick. I bring those sticks home and find that despite identical packaging, one stick is dual channel and the other is single. No biggie, I try it anyways. POST error, same one, video card BS.
I take those back and the guy there this time tells me that I should try the PNY sticks because their chipset is extremely compatible. I take those home, pop 'em in, POST error.
I take out the Corsair sticks and leave the PNY's in, it POSTs fine and my system works again. I upgraded a ton of drivers, tried again, still no luck.
I'm waiting to install a BIOS upgrade that I just bought, but for some ODD reason I need a floppy disk (because everyone still uses floppy disks) to do the upgrade, and I have none (and no desire to take yet ANOTHER drive to the store today).
So, before I completely lose my ****ing mind over this, does anyone have any suggestions?
