The PlayStation 3 (PS3) console has had an extremely successful launch in the UK, with gamers buying up 165,000 units in two days following the launch according to Chart-Track estimates. This would make the PS3 console - which retails in the territory for £425 - the fastest selling "home" console there yet, ahead of Nintendo's Wii console and Microsoft's Xbox 360 console.

When the Xbox 360 console launched in the UK in November 2005, it sold 70,000 units during its first weekend. As for Nintendo's Wii console, it managed to move 105,000. Both launches were noted to have suffered from shortages with both company struggling to keep up with demand.

Sony delayed the launch of the PS3 in PAL territories for four months, giving the company time to produce enough units for a shortage-free launch. Overall, the excellent figures puts the PS3 in second place for the "fastest selling games hardware" to the PlayStation Portable (PSP), which sold 185,000 units during its launch weekend.

PS3 sold 20,000 units in Australia[/URL]

Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) console has sold 20,000 units in Australia since it was launched on Friday, Sony Australia has announced. According to the company, sales of hardware, software and accessories generated AUD$25 million (USD$20.2 million €15.2 million). The PS3 sells for AUD$999 in Australia and games go for an average of AUD$99.

The Xbox 360 console was launched in Australia on the same date last year, March 23rd 2006, and in the following four days it managed to move 30,421 units and went on to to 700,000 by October that year. These figures made the Xbox 360 the fastest selling console in the territory until the Wii was launched in December.

Nintendo's Wii was launched in Australia on December 6th and in the following four days it just past Microsoft by moving 32,901 units.

Some reports say Sonys total stock of PS3s was 200K for the UK of corse the 165 estimate was via a "outside source" the Aus launch sold 20K,if anything this shows Sony knows how to sale to the sheeple buy 800$+ system that dose 40$+ movies and a total of 12 80$+ games with questionable BWC and network issues to boot....

Am I one of the few that thinks the PS3 is allot like horse crap? its smelly gooey and costs a sht load, a great garden of games will rise from it
and be the center of gaming but for now its just costly sht.....
