It was this year that my son had his first "Family Life" course.
He's in the 5th Grade this year.
These courses are the wonderful optional courses. A Parent can choose to sign their child up or opt-out all together. I like this, as I've said before. These courses are short courses, lasting only a couple of weeks or so.

The Elementary (5th Grade) was "Growth and Changes".

It's the only choice other than to opt-out. Naturally, I signed him up. And he did well.
I've received the notification that there will be 3 choices next year (6th Grade).
For Middle School, and this is the fun one, I can choose Abstinence Only courses, Abstinence Based courses, or opt-out.
The Abstinence Only is taught as, according to the flyer that I received, "...teaches abstinence as the ONLY 100% effective method for preventing disease and pregnancy.
The Abstinence Based is taught as , according to the flyer, "...Abstinence is STRESSED as the only 100% effective way of preventing teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

For my son, I'm choosing the Abstinence Based courses.
But I do like the title of the Sex Respect course in Grade 8. Not to mention the reference to just saying "no". I hope they include that in the Abstinence Based course for Grade 8 also.
Anyway, we got into this discussion about optional courses in several other threads, so I thought I'd share an actual situation for myself.
