The princess cut diamond

Second in popularity only to the round cut, the princess cut is among the most popular diamond shapes. While it may not have the brilliance of the round cut, the princess cut is nevertheless a highly brilliant diamond shape. With its 76 facets, it does well to hide any imperfections.

Princess cut diamonds are a more recent diamond cut having been created in 1979 by Betezal Amber and Israel Itzkovitz. Moreover, the square shape of the princess cut gives off a modern sophistication.

The cushion cut diamond

Cushion cut diamonds are among the most popular diamond shapes thanks to their soft curved edges and brilliance. They are durable and are not as prone to chipping or breaking around the edges like the princess cut diamond.

The cushion cut diamond shape has been around since the 1700s having originated from the “old mine cuts” from Brazil. While these original cushion cuts had 54 facets, the more modern cushion cut has 64 facets which gives it more brilliance.

The oval cut diamond

Another of the most popular diamond shapes is the oval cut diamond. Its elongated shape makes it appear larger than a round diamond of the same carat weight. What’s more it is less costly than a round diamond of similar size.

The radiant cut diamond

The radiant cut has amazing brilliance. It can either have a square shape or a rectangular shape. Furthermore, the radiant cut also features 70 facets for optimum light dispersion. One of the major benefits is that the brilliance of the radiant cut helps to hide imperfections.
