It's a place that, granted only has a seating capacity of like 18,000, but every seat in that park feels close to the field. It's construction is rather modern and to me, almost always, there is something about how the roof is that it kind of frames the sky in a way that is perfect and adds to the aesthetic. The sky doesn't even have to look that great, but just have a few clouds or a sunset and it makes it beautiful.
There has never been football lines during a whitecaps game. Mls does consider bc place a sss I guess because it was built with the whitecaps in mind.
Hate to break it to you, but MLS is still a second rate sport in every town. The stadiums have nothing to do with it.
CenturyLink field was built to house a soccer team from day 1 and BC Place has been in FIFA since the Whitecaps came into MLS, because the main North American EA Sports offices are located in Vancouver.
MLS is second rate in Vancouver, when we have one of the best attendance's in the league in a highly accessible downtown stadium (with brand new turf that's as close to grass your going to get more Fifa 16 news). We also have the ability to expand to over 50k for home playoff games and international friendlies. I would rather have that than a place like Chicago where they have a soccer specific stadium that no one will even go to because its so damn far away. Vancouver has some of the most expensive land values on earth...there's no way we could get a soccer specific stadium built anywhere near the downtown core.
It's pointless anyway since I can't think of any city where MLS isn't "second rate" to another pro sports franchise and I don't know if that will ever change, or matter. Even in Columbus the team is way behind Ohio State in terms of fan interest.
The canucks have been in the NHL since 1970, and hockey is the country's most loved sport by a mile. You have to look for growth, not trying to do the impossible. It's more impressive that the caps are starting to overtake the BC lions in popularity, and team that's been around since 1954. I'm sure SKC will never be on the level of the chiefs either.
