Because of a previous conviction for trafficking in steroids in 2004, his residence permit was not renewed. He was taken to a detention center in New Jersey (Kearny, NJ County Correctional Facility) sent pending proceedings about possible deportation in which it would be decided whether he would be sent back to the Dominican Republic. Here he would stay until the decision on his case was made on 27 April 2012. He was released and permitted hereafter in the US stay.
