Using ICT (Information and Communications Technology) describes the ability to handle and communicate information, solve problems, pose questions and be creative through the use of technology.
The focus on Using ICT Accreditation means that pupils should have opportunities to transfer their knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of meaningful contexts across the curriculum. This includes:
collaborating inside and outside the classroom;
sharing and exchanging work; and
exhibiting and showcasing their learning.
Planning of using ICT:
The teaching and learning of Using ICT is a statutory curriculum requirement for all year groups throughout primary school.
Schools should aim to create a whole-school approach.
Before pupils carry out an assessment activity for Using ICT, they should have had opportunities to develop the range of ICT skills they need to carry out the activity with some independence.
There are some ICT Accreditation task list of ICT activities :
Most of the tasks are generic in context: you can fit them into any topic that you are doing with your class, in any Area of Learning.
Tasks are categorised by the type of ICT activity (Desirable Features) that they focus on. When you search the Task Library, search by the category of ICT that you would like a task to cover. Each task focuses on one or more of these:
Desktop publishing
Film and Animation
Interactive Design
Managing Data
Music and Sound
Online Communication
Presenting
Working with Image.

Each task sets out the following:
prior learning and suggested Plan–Do–Review ideas;
level(s) of Using ICT addressed;
the ‘E’s that may be covered;
the associated Desirable Features; and
teacher and pupil notes.

Using ICT in Practice:
The innovative, effective use of ICT across the curriculum can enhance, support and extend pupils’ learning experiences. Some schools are already providing opportunities for pupils to develop skills in different types of ICT. Some schools may feel ready to incorporate less familiar areas of ICT into their planning for learning and teaching.
In this section, we showcase examples of the types of ICT experiences that are happening in schools across Northern Ireland. We hope that they will educate, entertain and enthuse.
