Adelaide trailed to Labinot Haliti's goal but Bruce Djite equalised six minutes after half-some time to, after Wanderers defender Matthew Spiranovic was sent off, Sergio Cirio scored to create the 2-1 victory.
The effect leaves United third in the table, level on points with second-placed Melbourne Victory and also a point behind Perth Glory. Perth play Melbourne City on Sunday.
