In fact, the only two reasons I continued using iTunes to do with buying apps and sync them. While you can download / buy applications from the device itself, many people prefer to use iTunes for that purpose (I belong to this group).

iTools will not let you buy apps from the app (and that would be lethal to iTunes), so you have to keep using iTunes for this. The same goes for the update / sync the applications, when you give an application upgrade to iTools, this calls iTunes to do the job.

Finally, if you're tired of iTunes, then download iTools is a must, just takes up space on your hard and yet has much to offer.
