Apple says that its app store has hit an impressive 10 billion downloads. They further say that apps of all different shades (from games to productivity and all shapes and sizes in between) have been downloaded on by more than 160 million iOS device owners - iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The company hit that milestone in two and a half years, though Apple calculates that most of those downloads were made in 2010 - around 7 million.

"With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two and a half years—a staggering seven billion apps in the last year alone—the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
