Analyst Edward S. Williams from BMO Capital Markets runs down the number released by Nintendo this week. According to internal Nintendo sales estimates, the Wii sold more than 7 million units at US retail in calendar 2010, while the DS has surpassed aggregate US sell through of 47 million units since the November 2004 launch.
Wii sell through is slightly ahead of the company's estimate, while DS performance is weaker than expected. Based on year-to-date data from NPD, BMO says that "the implied performance for both hardware platforms in December is down by 35 - 40 percent."
