Speaking at the UBS Media and Communications Conference in New York, Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown said that the world's largest publisher expects huge revenue growth through digital distribution in the next few years. Brown estimates that digital sales - full games, DLC, etc., will account for about 20 percent of the company's total revenue for this fiscal year.
Brown also told the crowd that micro-transactions have proven to be a big hit with consumers, using FIFA 10's Ultimate Team mode as an example: He claims that some consumers have spent around $700 on card packs for the game.
Looking ahead to next year, Brown expects great things from The Old Republic, though he did not go into great detail.
Finally, Brown admitted that the digital revenue stream still begins with a traditional product sold at retail on the current generation of consoles. He doubts that EA will abandon selling discs in stores anytime soon.
