A handful of Connecticut schools have turned to a videogame in order to assist in educating pupils in the lost language of Latin.
Norwich Free Academy, Brien McMahon High School and the University of Connecticut are utilizing a role-playing game entitled Operation LAPIS, which was created by UCONN Associate Professor Roger Travis and NFA’s Kevin Ballestrini.
Student Shawn Lee admitted that initially he laughed at the concept of using a game to teach Latin, but now, he said, “It’s my favorite class," adding, "I’m exposed to a culture that uses Latin by being in a role-playing game.”
Ballestrini offered, “I recognize the power video games have, and not all games are created equal.”
