In an interview with Philly.com, Random, whose real name is Raheem Jarbo, explained how he began his music career with the help of the PlayStation game MTV Music Generator. As Jarbo explained, “We didn't have beats, so I started making beats on it.”
That initial attempt was met with positive feedback and helped him land a job at a local music studio, where he cut a demo. From there Jarbo looked to his favorite videogame character (Mega Man) for inspiration and created an entire album using sampled beats from Mega Man videogames.
