The trial of 24-year-old Jesse Earl Scheuing is underway in Oxford, Alabama. He is accused of shooting a convenience store clerk in the head at close range and emptying the register of $300 in cash on Nov. 28, 2008. Scheuing took that cash and bought an Xbox 360 and a game, according to published reports. The motive of the crime is a mystery because the defendant and the victim were supposedly friends who played videogames the night before the murder.
If convicted Scheuing faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. Two other defendants, a married couple who waited in the car during the crime, will face charges later this year in separate court cases.
