A group in Toronto is trying to foster a gaming community that brings independent game developers together with game enthusiasts.
An article in TOtech chronicles the work of The Hand Eye Society, which puts together "socials, conferences, presentations and showcases" and has had a few events funded by the Canadian Arts Council. Perhaps the most interesting part of the organization is its "ambassador," a retro-style arcade cabinet called the Torontotron, which holds numerous locally produced retro-inspired games.
The group is looking to expand its membership and all you have to do is pledge 10 hours of time through helping people make games, connecting game makes with a prospective audience (offline), or foster diversoty in game creation and public perception of games.
