Julian Gollop, I always felt, got a raw deal after X-Com Apocalypse. Then he was voted off the island, or whatever it is big greedy publishers to developers whose franchises they enticed away from them. Honestly the last X-Com game that was even worth its salt was EM@IL X-Com. Gollop went on to do a few other games including the excellent Laser Squad Nemesis, but fans wanted him back in the driver's seat of the franchise he created. That's not going to happen for whatever reasons. Instead 2K Marin will make something of the franchise, though it's a shooter and not a strategy game and Gollop wasn't even consulted. You know, forget that he's not a consultant on the project - would it be so bad for the developers working on this reset of the franchise to just email him and get some opinions?
But I digress. I don't mean to be critical of 2K Marin BTW - they are trying to make a decent game - but I have a soft spot for the original game and its creator. Read More
