Zombie master George A Romero plans on getting back into videogames and will soon release a neato app for iPhone that offers a personal and creepy touch. In an interview with Gamepro, Romero talked about his new iPhone app, App of the Dead, and plans to work on a new videogame.
He also talks quite a bit about the videogame industry and videogames in general - but admits that at his tender age he is not capable of playing anything other than computer chess.
His first stab at creating a videogame, Kuju Entertainment's City of the Dead, fell through with the bankruptcy of Hip Interactive. The new app lets you take a picture of someone and turn them into a zombie for fun. Here's more on both projects:
There are 20 different make-up effects that we've put into this app. The app is great because you can customize your undead to your preference. It's a lot of fun for me to see others empowered with the ability to create zombies. I would love to turn my ex into a zombie.
There will be a future video game version of this. We're working on an interesting game that's essentially a shooting gallery where you can take the zombies you create and splatter them into bloody pulps.
The rest of the interview is pretty interesting, delving into why Romero didn't start out calling the undead in his movies "zombies," the current popularity of zombies - which he attributes to videogames, and the evolution of the zombie movie monster.
