Former Hudson Entertainment CEO and president, John Greiner, wants to bring real Japanese games, rich with culture and personality, to North America. This just in: I love this idea! Today he announced that he has formed a new company called Monkey Paw Games to accomplish that goal. This marks the return of the 15 year industry veteran, who stepped away from the business in 2008 to focus on other things that we don’t care about because they probably weren't game-related.
Greiner says that this new company will bring "real Japanese games" that never made it to Western shores due to a variety of differences - not the least of which may have been cultural. He believes there is a real market for "games that feed into the fascination with Japanese gaming and culture." Certainly companies like Atlus and NIS America have already made his point by bringing a fair share of unique Japanese games to the U.S. market.
Expect some announcements at E3 next month. Greiner is a bit of an icon considering that he helped launch the TurboGrafx-16 in the United States and was instrumental in bringing games like Adventure Island, Military Madness, and Bomberman to Americans. The company plans to release retro Japanese games with modern graphics.
