I stumbled on this image and was going to call it the 'Fun Pic of the Day' like I usually do when I find fun images but somehow, this image didn't remind me of anything fun. I actually had to edit the original image considerably to make it SFW and more 'PG'-friendly because the original had too many swear words on it!
It's a shame to admit that I've experienced days like this when gaming. You know, days when you just mind your own business and want to have fun and some nub who has never heard a female voice online before just has to start with the smart, degrading attitude and comments. I'd like to say that I'm tough-skinned enough to not worry about it and for all the years that I've been gaming, I think I've come a long way considering how much I used to hate using a mic. But there are days when I will simply avoid using my mic online because I just can't be bothered with the crap.
So some tips for any female gamers reading this (just to make your online experiences a little more pleasant):
1. If you can, try to make friends with people who are willing to look beyond gender online. It might take time at first, but it's worth it. That way you can at least ensure you'll have a relatively fun gaming experience or at least one with less harrassment.
2. There's a certain level of what's acceptable and what isn't online. Each community is different but be wary of who you add to your friend's list (and this goes for anyone, not just women). Some people may seem friendly but turn out to be jerks.
3. Never give out personal details of any sort to any one online and this kinda goes without saying but whatever you do DON'T give out your XBL account details, even to 'friends'.
