Canada will get its first video game awards ceremony on Wednesday. The idea was floated last year by Victor Lucas, co-host of Reviews on the Run and Electric Playground - at last year's Game Developers Conference Canada. The Edmonton Journal caught up with Lucas to talk about how it happened and why it is important to Canadian game developers and fans.
The Canadian Videogame Awards game of the year nominees are led by Assassin's Creed 2, which was developed at Ubisoft's Montreal studio, which has earned seven nominations in various categories. Other games nominated for awards include Dawn of War 2 from Vancouver's Relic Entertainment, Dragon Age: Origins from Edmonton-based BioWare, EA Sports FIFA 10 form EA Canada's Burnaby, B.C., studio, and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes from Toronto's Capybara games.

"I think the idea is, let's just focus on the industry and let's make it a night about celebrating games and game making in Canada."
The awards are set for Wednesday in Vancouver.
