The book, a successor the a short story called [URL=http://dir.salon.com/tech/feature/2004/11/15/andas_game/]Anda's Game[/URL], fictionalizes the life of gold farmers in China, and what might happen if these overworked and underpaid individuals formed a union.
Earlier in the week Doctorow read an excerpt from the book during his [URL=http://feeds.feedburner.com/doctorow_podcast]podcast[/URL]. In the scene, according to Doctorow's [URL=http://craphound.com/?p=2816]craphound site[/URL], "a wildcat strike breaks out in an Internet Cafe in Guangzhou."
Doctorow's latest work will be available on May 11 in the US, UK and Canada. In addition to his work as a science fiction writer, Doctorow is best known as a co-founder of the popular [URL=http://www.boingboing.net/]Boing Boing blog[/URL].
