I recently blogged about researching new MMOs to play and discovered a few gems out there and the wonder of F2P (free-to-play) MMOs for the first time. Part of that experience revealed some problems as well which are just as important to blog about. It's nice to hear about positive gaming experiences but equally as important to be informed about games that aren't so great for whatever reason.
I spent some time playing Allods Online which (to begin with) seemed like a great MMO. But this didn't last. For some reason, I just couldn't stay connected due to the hurrendous lag. My computer would time out in the middle of a gaming session and at crucial times - if you've ever played an MMO before, you'll know how annoying it can be to get disconnected right in the middle of killing something. What's even more annoying is that I chose to play a healer so if the healer in your group suddenly lags out, the entire party can be instantly affected. Not good.
This happened a few times and I persevered at first. But after a week of consistent disconnects, I started to wonder what the hell was going on. After some extensive forum research, it came to my attention that multiple Allods players were being affected by terrible lag spikes. While the Allods support team endeavoured to help certain individuals in the community (and they did seem very eager to help), everyone else was kinda stuck with facing the decision to either continue with the lag or go elsewhere.
