In a previous post I talked about [URL=http://gameculture.com/2010/03/18/lookout-new-mmorpg]looking for a new MMO[/URL] to play. I had never experienced 'F2P' or 'free-to-play' MMOs simply because I always thought there was a catch or something dodgy going on. Either you'd get spammed to death by distasteful ad campaigns such as those for F2P game [URL=http://gameculture.com/2010/04/07/problem-evony][I]Evony[/I] [/URL]or you'd be scammed and tricked into paying huge amounts of money.

As part of my investigation into the other side of the MMO world, I discovered a few different games and came up with some surprising results. The first game I tried was [I]Mytheon[/I] (which is currently in beta). I wasn't too impressed with the gameplay at first and was consistently booted back to the login screen (I figured this was just a bug and eventually the devs would get around to fixing it). I left that for a while and focused on [I]MO[/I] (Mortal Online) which really appealed to me. I also (mistakenly) thought that I'd be 'hardcore' enough to handle a 'grassroots' style MMO like [I]Mortal Online[/I] but soon realised that I really didn't have what it took to play it. A game without a mapping system was just not gonna work for me. Call me a wuss if you will, but the idea of being lost and wandering around in a harsh wilderness for hours on end just didn't seem like a whole lot of fun. And the idea of calling out for help across global chat did cross my mind, but how can someone attempt to help you when you can't even give coordinates of your location?
