[B]You've read here every so often about videogame world records being attempted or broken, but now it appears that on of the oldest video game scores could be about to fall.[/B]

The record for the arcade game Asteroids has stood since Nov. 13, 1982. The score was 41,336,440, recorded by Scott Safran. Now, almost 30 years later, John McAllister is closing in on that record. After about 44 hours of play, McAllister has recorded a score of 32,600,000 and has the maximum number of ships remaining (as of noon EST). Estimates show he has at least another eight hours to go. He has already rolled the machine over 325 times.

According to [URL=http://www.aurcade.com/events/marathon.aspx]chat at Aurcade[/URL], a site that tracks world record attempts, Mcallister has figured in when he can take breaks and still return with a good number of ships left. as of this posting at 12:30 p.m., he is on a short break, as the live feed shows his ship unmoving and getting destroyed over and over.
