A developer from IO Interactive believes that the growing legion of violent game critics is populated by people that are unfamiliar with games.
Karsten Lund, Game Director on the upcoming Kane & Lynch: Dog Days title offered his opinions to CVG, saying, “'I’m not an expert in psychology, but I do think that some of these opinions come from an outside crowd that's not really used to dealing with games, they just watch it and think 'Oh, it's got to be affecting people'.”
Lund thinks that that gamers, “knows the difference between real life and games.” He continued, “Even chess is a violent game about war you could say, right? Games are a chance to try stuff that you're not trying in real life, and without having to face the consequences.”
Lund called the next Kane & Lynch entry a “brutal crime shooter,” but claimed that it is not as violent as Gears of War, which he described as “probably the most bloody game and brutal game I've ever seen.”
