How important do you think it is for gamers to choose their sexual orientation in video games? With the [URL=http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/03/xbox-live-policy/]recent developments on Xbox Live[/URL] relating to gamers now being able to display their sexual orientation in their profiles, it's an interesting topic to explore. Are there pros and cons to this happening in video games and if so, what are they? Shouldn't everyone be allowed to play a game exactly how they want to?
Game marketing today is aimed at sucking gamers in with campaigns that target the areas gamers want to see and experience most - realism and freedom of choice. At the GDC last week, [I]Peter Molyneaux[/I] briefly discussed this very topic:
Another interesting point made by Molyneux was about gamers' "choice" in terms of sexual orientation in a game. For instance, wouldn't it be interesting if some games, by default, had gay characters?
