Last Tuesday, I tried life modelling for the first time. Having drawn live models a handful of times and wondered what it would be like on the other side, I'd been meaning to try it for ages, and I got my chance when I saw a post on Craigslist asking for art models. It was at a local game company -- the artists like to practice on a weekly basis to keep their skills up -- and as luck would have it, I know one of the programmers at the company in question. I applied and discovered that they would indeed take a complete beginner, and since I knew it was a safe place and it was only 2 hours of 2-10 minute poses, I figured it was probably the best opportunity I would ever have to try it.
So I did. And it was awesome. The nudity aspect wasn't a problem in the slightest, possibly because I was too busy fretting over my ability to hold my poses and pick sufficiently interesting ones. If anything, I was actually glad to be naked because even 5 minutes of standing still can be quite physically demanding -- on one particular pose where I vastly overestimated my strength, my legs kept shaking and sweat was running down my back as I desperately tried to keep still. As it turned out, I did quite well for a beginner, and while I still have plenty of room to improve, I was thrilled to hear that they want me back later on next month :D
So, now that I've shared my experiences, has anyone else tried it (or something similar)? And if so, how did it go? If not, I would strongly recommend it, at least if you're comfortable with nudity and willing to torture your body a bit in the name of art. The pay's decent too, but I don't think it's something that I would do just for the money.
And no, I have no pics. The artists kept their sketches, and even if I had them, I wouldn't upload them to the internet :p
