It's barely weeks into the new legislative year and video games are already under attack from over reaching elected officials. Two bills are being pushed forward by uninformed video game critics and we need your voice to stand up against these attacks.
Congressman Joe Baca has introduced H.R. 231. This bill, if passed, would require a warning label be affixed to all video games rated T or up by the ESRB, regardless of the content descriptors. The warning label would read: 'WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior.'. Congress is simply misinformed on this issue. The vast majority of studies show that there is no proven causal link between violent media of any type and aggressive behavior.
The ECA needs your help to make sure this bill does not become law. Write your Congressman today, http://action.theeca.com/t/2858/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2508.
This national bill isn't the only piece of legislation being put forth. The New York legislature is presently contemplating a bill that would restrict the sale of video games to people under the age of 18. Parenting is for parents, not the government. As we know, restricting video games based on violent content violates the First Amendment.
If you are in New York, stand up for the First Amendment and free speech by taking action now, http://action.theeca.com/t/2858/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2509.
