Hi everyone. I'm Liz and I'm a 22-year-old first year law student living in Boston. I'm here because I have always loved video games and everything about them, and I've always kicked around different possible careers in my mind from level design to composing to writing and now to law.
Everyone asks me what kind of law I want to practice, and I haven't had an easy answer. I've been doing a lot of research into different areas, and none of them sparked my emotions like reading about entertainment law. Game industry law isn't really its own area, but entertainment law is the closest thing. Game law involves a lot of contracts, intellectual property, copyrights, etc when the only thing I wanted to do for the industry was First Amendment defense of the artistic visions of developers. I thought all the business-related stuff was incredibly boring and would make me miserable. But I realized something very important--if you truly love and believe in something as I love the game industry, you'll do whatever it takes to be of service.
So I want to learn everything I can about game industry practice, my dream job would be in-house counsel for a publisher, preferably one who has in-house development. (Developers typically don't have in-house counsel because they're more of the creative than the businiess end, I think).
Aside from all that work, I also love music, the arts, just hanging out, etc. If you want to know anything about me (except social security number) just ask!
