He interviewed some dude named Toby Keith. I've personally never heard of this douchebag, but after seeing this interview last night I'm almost wishing I still hadn't.
Outside the fact that he's a country musician and I personally feel that country music has NO redeeming value whatsoever, I ran into a much LARGER issue with this moron and his new CD.
Colbert opened the jacket to reveal a FORD TRUCK ADVERTISEMENT in the back of the CD booklet.
For anyone looking for a really good definition of "sell out", putting an ad anywhere in your CD book would be a good place to start.
For anyone looking for the definition of "white trash", putting a truck ad in a country album's CD booklet would ALSO be a good place to start.
Sorry if there any Toby Keith fans out there, but I really needed to rant about how absolutely disgusted I am that men like him are granted funding to record albums. It's people with attitudes like him who are ruining the business for everyone else. Music is NOT a commodity, it's an art form. Art shouldn't sell trucks, and it definitely shouldn't be doing it on the piece of art itself.
I would liken it to going to an art museum and on the little nameplate next to a Van Gogh you saw a line that read "This painting brought to you by Burger King. Try the new flame broiled sack of fat today. It's what Vincent would have wanted you to do."
