List your top-ten favorite movies, and why you love each one.

Mine can fluctuate depending on my mood, but it's still always within the same group of 25-30 movies, and numbers 1-4 or so are almost always the same.

10. Henry Fool (1997)
I love when filmmakers blend comedy and drama. I'm also fond of dialogue-heavy comedies. The two protagonists, Henry Fool and Simon Grim, each very strongly remind me of different sides of myself. And, being a subversive writer myself, that whole aspect of the plot spoke to me.

9. Akira (1988)
Beautiful animation, fantastic score, and one hell of a head-trip.

8. The Fly (1986)
I love this movie for so many reasons. Good score, some of the best acting I've ever seen, wonderful grotesque, icky special effects, dark humor, and, most of all, the emotional aspect.

7. Happiness (1998)
Muahahahaha.... Deliciously dark comedy/drama. Being someone with a very pessimistic and cynical viewpoint on love and relationships, I found this movie to be highly entertaining in that aspect. Dylan Baker does a damned fine acting job in this movie, too.

6. The End of Evangelion (1997)
Oh, oh, OH.... This movie is an incredible epilogue to an incredible TV show. I love surreality, and this movie is as twisted as you can possibly go in that direction. I also love studying different occult/religious things, and this movie's melding of them all is really interesting. I love studying psychology, and this movie is rich in that kind of thing as well.

5. Natural Born Killers (1994)
Again, I love surreality, which this movie is ****ing saturated with. I love the semi-cartoonishness of the whole ordeal. I like the inversion of types of roles for some of the actors; Woody Harrelson was known for playing a sweet, naive little guy on Cheers, and on this movie, he plays an absolute monster. Rodney Dangerfield plays some of the blackest humor I've ever seen.

4. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
IMO, the best comedy in years. In this day and age, there seems to be something of a draught of comedies that don't rely on bodily function jokes and slapstick and at the same time aren't feminist, unrealistically optimistic romantic bull****. This is one of those rare comedies. I laughed to whole way through.... Pure genius.

3. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Tim Burton's best movie. Danny Elfman's score is beautiful, the imagery is great, and the social satire is golden, and quite similar to the satire in The Simpsons: most people are shallow, unreasonable ***holes with a mob mentality. And, for once, through some perversion of logic and reason, this bitter, misanthropic, neurotic bastard actually found the love story enormously touching.

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
****ing awesome. I'm a big fan of Terry Gilliam, Hunter S. Thompson, and Johnny Depp... All because of this film. I love the soundtrack, I love the surreality, I love the dark humor, I love the cartoonish imagery, and I love 'Duke's' tense, sarcastic narration.

1. Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Fantastic acting. The greatest score I've ever heard in my life. A hideously bleak, depressing ending. The maniacal, eclectic, downright insane directing style. Words simply cannot do this film justice. 20/10. Five thumbs up. An absolute masterpiece.
