I've been giving the demo and the Multiplayer beta of this a go for a while now. I have to say I'm looking forward to this game quite a lot. I've played first person style fantasy games before (Oblivion, Morrowind, Arx Fatalis) but none of them really offered what this game does. Connection.
If you hit some one in the side of the head with your sword they act like they've been hit in the side of the head with a sword. You hack at limbs, they come off, you kick someone and they fall over. Bliss! The only issue is that I worry the full game is going to rely too much on the destructible environments to complete the levels. They're fun and all, cutting a rope and watching a large log swing into an enemy, but they just lack the challenge of a proper sword duel.
The multiplayer is a totaly different matter. You can play as a Warrior, Assasin, Archer, Priestess and Mage for either the Human or Undead teams. Everyone starts off at level 1 but eventually they level up and gain new abilities, styled to their method of play. As a demented Undead mage for example I spend all my points on fire abilities to obliterated large concentrations of enemy groups. I could just as easily have gone for the more deadly but more precise lighting path...but I just love the smell of burning human in the morning.
The modes on offer range from the usual Deathmatch, CTF yada yada but there is also the campaign mode which offers a branching collection of missions to achieve victory. Thats what is really making me giggle like a loon.
sadly there are some downsides, such as the poison effect (distorts your view so you have no idea what you are doing), Archers seemingly invincible (or at least they never seem to die no matter how on fire they are) and worst of all...the chat window...it is trully terrible playing this amazing fantasy setting and seeing "M4g35 R g4y!111!" every five minutes.
So...anyone else looking forward to it?
