The graphics on my dad's Internet Explorer look like the color depth is on 4 bit graphics.

(Saying that the image is grainy would be a better description.)

I took a screenshot.

The color depth in windows look correct, so its just an IE problem.

Not sure what to do...

I'm probably thinking of obvious things you've already tried.

Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > Colors
Is "Use Windows Colors" checked?

Also under General Tab, check "Accessibility". There's a section there about ignoring colors specified on web page. Mine is unchecked.

That's all I can think of right now.

Actually, I hadn't thought of it. It's not working but it was a good idea.

Theory?

It's probably because he's using IE ;).

I dunno. I use Firefox myself.

Does he remember if the color had always been like this or if it happened after any particular installation? I noticed a few addons, including PeoplePC internet and others. May not be the link, but it's worth a check also.

I use IE 6 also, and I'm not having the problem. I am just wondering what might be different other than different computer hardware.

Any other addons that might have affected the color setting?

You should upgrade to IE7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx?mg_ID=10010) or Firefox (www.mozilla.com).

Upgrade to IE7 for your dad as a fallback, and teach him the virtues of Firefox.

Or upgrade both just in case.

You might want to think Firefox if need be. A number of web sites are not IE 7 compatible yet.

I'm having the same problem with Firefox 3 right now, but I just have it identify itself as Firefox 2 to solve that.

Isn't that still in alpha though?

**** IE7 or Firesomething! Get Opera, the only web browser recommanded by the Greg-gundan, the Canadian Tubes Association of the Internets and the Sex Addict Anonymous (also known as /b/).

I'd prefer not to use a browser that had to be paid for until competition made it free.

I prefer using a browser that works, is fully customizable, is fun to use, has a great community, has a better RSS system then Firesomething...

I'm just hopeing it isn't something I've done.

I'd say Firefox has all of that. Though the only extension I've got changes the downloads manager from a separate window to a little bar at the bottom of the page...

And RSS is a bit overhyped. It's not that big a deal, just an excuse to be lazy while surfing.

It's fixed. I dont know what happened.
