Every time I post a comment on the main page I get hit by the spam filter. It gets relly fustrating when I have taken time into trying to put a well thought response to find out that I cannot post it.
Thanks.

Maybe it's the numbers in your name. Try posting as just Cecil.
EDIT: If your email address is the same that might set it off too.

A few people had that problem early on when I first implemented the spam filter (Spam Karma 2)...
I thought I had solved the problem, but apparently not in your case, Warren.
I had whitelisted your IP a while back, but just gave it a much stronger whitelist ranking.
Let me know how this plays out.

I'll try both KN and GP. Thanks.

Edit/Update - I don't think it works under my earthlink address. I'll try using it again later. For now it works with my hotmail address. Thanks again.

you were able to post using your hotmail address?
Spam karma 2 is really powerful. I like it a lot. You wouldn't believe all of the spam it traps. Hoping we can fix this for you ASAP.

Yeah. It's kinda strange. I only use it for my MSN Messenger. I guess I see what kind of spam it's designed to block. I saw some earlier. I heard from Lazlow's "The Technofile" about splogs spam that takes the form of a blog response. I agree that those are annoying. and space consuming.
I won't really mind using the hotmail account to post for a while.
Thanks and Happy Hollidays.

no problem, Warren - glad we found a way to get your comments seen.
I'm guessing that Spam Karma 2 either doesn't like Earthlink generally, or that there was a lot of incoming spam from Earthlink in the early days of SK2's implementation on GP.
At this point, though, I really couldn't do without it. You wouldn't believe the amount of comment spam directed at GP.

I can imagine from where it says at bottom how much it blocks. Some people don't think that we don't get enough ads from TV and Radio that they have to flood the internet with that crap too.

Sorry.
But using both my Earthlink and Hotmail accounts do not work.

I re-Whitelisted your IP this morning... not sure why that had disappeared.
But I can tell you that Spam Karma evaluates certain behaviors as potentially spammish.
Do you log in when you comment? Logged-in users who have already had an approved comment should sail through.
More than 3 links looks spammish to SK. Also, do you type your comment on the page (better) or paste it in from offline? SK doesn't like comments that appear in too few seconds... I guess that seems like bot behavior.

That might be it. I'm accessing the site for right now from my dad's laptop and have gotten out habit of logging in. I must have told it to remember me and cleared the cookies of something. But I'll give it a try.
thanks.

It looks like the main page just doesn't like me.
Logged in, using both earthlink and hotmail address it STILL hits the spam filter!
It's like it works for a while then it dosen't.

Warren - I'm baffled... I cleared that comment for you (I can do that within 2 hours of posting, so try to let me know if you get stuck again)...
also - sandwiched around your Cecil posts were a couple from a "Warren"... didn't think they looked like anything you would post?

I type it on the comment page. My recent comment was to GamerDad about his comment on Jack Thompson sending his more lawsuits letter on christmas day.

I don't know what to do anymore.
The spam filter catches everything I post. No matter what information I put in! Or If I'm logged in or not.

thank you.

I'm having the same problem, my comment on Boris Johnson's page got through, but two comments I tried to post on other pages got detected as spam, and I was using same nick and e-mail in all of them (and same as on the forum). If it's about the IP, I'm on dynamic, so only first two series of numbers are static.

ZeRu - are you composing your messages on the site, or pasting them in?
There'a an issue where the spam filter doesn't like message posted too quickly. I assume it thinks they are bots.

I've tried composing them but it doesn't help - they never got through. I'm also logged in (it doesn't auto-fill my name, mail and website fields). Could this be a browser issue? I'm on Firefox, I haven't tried it on IE7.

I just white-listed your IP and manually cleared your comment on the driving games article.
If you have any more trouble posting, please e-mail me directly and I'll attack the problem. If we wait too long the spam filter flushes everything.
