Hal sent this out in the ECA newsletter of December 11th:

I'd like to start by thanking your for your support and for your patience while we have been ramping-up the association during this soft launch phase. In the coming weeks you will see announcements via press release, feature articles and news stories about the many strategic partnerships, new services and actionable directives that we have been alluding to halpreviously using generalities. We have been diligently pursuing partners whom we believe are both prudent and mutually-beneficial allies, and now that we have the first round of them finalized we can discuss how these relationships benefit you, personally and collectively, through these announcements.

Over the next few months, you'll also see the back-end of the website which contains the much anticipated services - ASP-based modules - coming online one after another. While not yet final, our development list of modules includes: Accounting/Payment, Career Center, Communications, Communities, Digital Distribution, Education/Scholarships, Government Relations/Lobbying, Insurance, Membership, Surveys/Voting, Voter Registration, and more. You can probably glean where we're going with the names of each of the above (I'd tell you the specifics, but our PR firm would not be pleased ;) And some of them will be quite robust, as you might imagine, while others will not be all that deep, but should provide a lot of value to your user experience.

While in this soft launch period, you may not have seen a tremendous amount of marketing messages about the ECA, but I can assure you that the situation is about to change significantly. Beginning in January, our enthusiast media partners - which include the leaders of print, online, and newsletters - will be running educational ads and solicitation messages that should expose the ECA to over 10 million gamers each and every month.

We are also upgrading our "monthly drawings" and "weekly newsletter" to "weekly drawings" and a "nightly newsletter." The prize drawings require no action on your behalf and is open to all active ECA members. As new partners come online, part of the agreement includes them giving us their product(s) to bundle into the weekly giveaway - it's good marketing for them and a nice perk for our members. The newsletter will be sent out each week night starting immediately. It is a very simple yet elegant piece that selects topically-important news items from endemic media sources and repackages them for easy reading. If you like the snippet and want to continue reading, just follow the link. We've also included the top ten new jobs available in the business and upcoming events which may be of interest to you.

And finally, we've sent the first batch of member contact information to our printers to get your new membership cards prepped. These first few print runs
will be quite nice, but will not rival those to come in the future by any stretch. The intent in the near term is simply to give you something tangible to show as proof of membership when necessary (for in-person discounts with partners, for instance). As thanks for your early membership, faith, and continued patience while we expand the business, we have classified all of you as "Founding Members" - and honor which will carry with it more than just the distinction it implies, but also special attention from our staff. As a Founding Member, your simple action of joining tells us how committed you are to the ECA and what we stand for and we, simply, believe that says a lot.

Thanks again for your support, and please pass the word to your friends... the larger the association gets, the more we can do on behalf of our members and the more we can affect change.

Sincerely,

Hal http://www.gamepolitics.com/images/hal-ECA.jpg

I was wondering if/when Dennis was going to post this announcement. Hey, why can't I post in the member's only forum? ;_;

Hey Dennis, you happen to know if the ECA lets non-Americans join? It being an American consumer organization and everything...

Hmm, the signup form doesn't list a country choice at all. Plus, no PayPal option yet. Oh well =/

It does however ask which state you're in

I checked with Hal yesterday. Looks like it is USA members only for now. :(

He doesn't think the credit card processor will accept a non-USA-issued card.

I'll ask him about PayPal...

Sucks that ECA appears to be US-only, because Hal remains my favourite video game politics related figure.

That would be good as I have Paypal.
