I had to force myself to stop playing at 2am and get to bed. This is, by far, the best Final Fantasy ever. I give praise to whoever did the gorgeous cutscenes, and the in-game graphics are nearly next-gen in quality. And the battle system makes sense now! It's a true active time battle system that lets me automate the routine stuff, but any mid-battle orders are carried out immediately. And the money distribution is done perfectly as well.

so its like FF8 where you need a appifany to understand it?

No, not really. Basically, the battle system is unlocked, you don't stand in one spot and trade blows, and if you need a character to do something they are not Gambited for, you just hit X, pausing the gameplay, and tell them their action and target.

Unless its on active then theres no pause right?

Right, but there's really no reason to set it as active unless you're a masochist.

I thought active was the default.

as long as its a choice,do the random chests screw up the flow of the game any?

did they hid stuff like on FF9 or is the hidden items far and few between?

It's more of randomized money and battle items. Enemies drop loot items which have no purpose but sale.

Enemies still drop the nromal potion or anti posin or whatever now and then ? or is it jsut all uesless crap?

BTW how dose the license grid work by drops and found items like the sphere grid?

steelcobra

yep, but you want those loot items because they fund new weaponry.

Each enemy you kill gives you at least 1 LP. Each grid has a certain number of points (highest I've seen yet is 65) needed to activate it. Once you activate the license, you need to buy the associated skill. For example, you activate White Magic 1 and you can go buy the scrolls for Cure and Poisona, and anybody with the license can use them. There are also squares that boost Stats, improve how items work, and increase Gambit slots.

Loot isn't all that useless. Selling stuff allows stuff to be locked in the Bazaar, like packs of weapons and potions that sell for far less then if you were to buy them individually.

a appifany is like a level up only its more like a ton of brinks hitting you in a good way.

LOL

how are the weapons and equipment are they as devrese and fun as FF4,6,9?
dose dual wileding function as dual wielding?

basically what I am asking is it polished and fun unlike FF8 and FF10?

steelcobra

yes, it is polished and fun. Though, if you're looking for outlandish weapons like the buster sword or gunblade, 12's world is based on FFTA, so all the weaponry is more real-world style. As for dual wielding, all I've seen so far is that the off hand is used for shields and ammunition.

SPOLIER maybe...

Reddas dual-wields. He becomes a guest later on in the game. Stupid me should have used the extra character to get Ultima and Zodiark and kill the Hell Wyrm...

I'm at 117 hours and at the final level finally.

It very much grew on me after a few hours, wheni started playing i was a little dissaponited and did not understand how it lived up to the hype.

Now i do, its so good it should come with a warning, i have not even scratched the service yet either. it is a well worthy addition to the franchise

I wish it had a save anywhere option. As it is I simply cannot play a console RPG because my real life gets in the way. Then I'm all like "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?".

but the one thing i cant stand is having to go around and farm for hours just to make a decent amount of gil

but other then that its great

I've played the game for some weeks now, playing on weekends when I have the time, basically. I like it - the story and characters remind me very much of Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics (Advance), the graphics and music are very good and the game is fun to play.

I just don't like the License Board one bit. All my characters became tanks without me making any conscious decision about it. Thus, they all acted very similarly and there was no point in differentiating between them. I did, just recently, however, take some action to set them up to act differently in the Gambit section, making one the tank, one a support character and one a magic user, which did help the situation some.

Actually, I think this game could have made a lot more use of the Sphere Grid from FFX, and I think it would have been pretty neat to see it in there.

Or maybe I'm just too used to trying to keep my characters on the same level.

Ech. Sounds like an MMO without the people. Personally I dumped my PS2 a while back and refuse to support Squenix due to a few things they've done recently. I've heard good on this game, but from whats being said it really does sound like a 1-player MMO.

That's because, for very many intents and purposes, it is one. They've taken a good long look at MMORPG's and have picked and mixed the parts of them they like to create something that's a hybrid of some of the best parts of both online and offline RPG's.

I do think the result is a very good game, though.

SO I got the collectors ed a few days ago and just stated playing it last night not fond of the combat or the license board which makes equipping "normal" equipment silly why not stick it on items to and really screw up things not fond of the lack of "classes" then again theres not been a real class in a FF game since 9 or 6....

Just for the heck of it I plopped in a couple of CB codes the run speed booster is nice and the action gauge always full code, that code is evil that code is VERY EVIL *L*

So far besides the battle system the lack of normal hidden loot annoys me its rather easy to see and find the randomly generated loot on filed and in some towns I miss the classic style RPG loot already >>

when I get more than 20 weapons I will come back and bitch about the weapon/equipment nerfing :P

Edit
BTW best damn dubbing in gaming yet.

edit
been playing it not stop over night I really hate they didn't create some team/party attacks commands its basically point click or let the AI do the work this reminds me of dungeon siege only without the party controls 0-o

turning gambits on its good for mindless leveling but theres not much meat to the game play so far the license board is a excuse to grind its not better than the sphere grid I think it even gives you less customizablity on the charatcers its so easy to mix classes you really cant build a pure class, lastly the weapons are STALE they manage to change and add some but FF 4/6 magic weapons with MAGIC on them kick more ass ,the gameplay comes up "automasterbate" most of the time the voice acting ,dialog ,story and charatcers so far hold the game up above the last 2 gameplay is worse than 9 better than 10 and the story is better than both.

I kinda wish you could speed up battle 50% more and I figured out turn based mode you have to bring the menu up yourself not bad but its only usefully on insanely strong foes.

anyone notice the star wars like "aesthetics" of some of the ships/charatcers?

ZippyDSMlee

I really dislike that weapons don't have their speed listed you kinda have to test it out and its hard to tell with most weapons whats faster....

I now am noticing the skills are so on track you cant really enjoying leveling up like you use to......"sigh"
I guess its a side effect of heavy auto scaling....
