Is anyone else tired of arbitrarily difficult parts of games? I mean ****, it seems like I can't go for ten minutes in any recent game (and yes I am talking about otherwise good games) without running into another twitch fest, or random race where the AI gets to cheat, or some other task that I'm forced to do in *exactly* the way the designers layed out or I lose.

For example: what prompted me to finally write this topic was that friggan' last Block-head in Okami. 9 points that I only have just over a second to memorise? AND there's little to no margin for error? screw that noise! wouldn't be the first good game I hadn't finished because it decided to be stupidly hard in everything outside of the main story.

What makes that and other things like it so infuriating to me though, is that it IS a frakking GAME! There is no (good) reason to force me as a player to play some stupid mini-game (even worse if it's required to advance the game) 20+ times just because...why are mini-games made difficult?! IS there an actuall reason they should be?

Gah! I guess I'd just prefer it if every game had at least an easy difficulty setting (though ideally there would be no need because game companies wouldnt be listing to ****ing stupid "hardcore" gamers on message boards). That or decide that bonus items don't have to be insanly difficult to get, because really, it's a ****ING GAME!

Bah, stop whining. ;) It used to be a lot worse, back when hint lines and books were a major part of a game company's revenue stream. In some of the old Sierra and Lucasarts games, you can really tell that the puzzles were designed to be so illogical that many gamers would be forced to spend money in order to complete the game.

Heh, this happened to me recently whe ngoing against Goomboss in Mario Kart DS. He was ultra fast, could jsut the center median, and was able to just knock me out of the way. It took me twent plus tries to beat him, and, it pissed me the **** off!!!!!!!!!

Happens so often, there are many games I'll just never finish from my NES days with Dragons Lair to my Xbox with Otagi 2(is that right?). Most memorable was Arx Fatalis where the only way I could even slightly proceed at the end was to use a spell which there is no listing or description for that I had to find the method online. Its why I never get very far with my Mortal Kombat games, because you have to go through the Konquest mode in order to unlock any characters and that means doing the practice tests and performing the combos in exactly the right way with exact timing. I get fed up easy!

Yeah I hate it when there are parts in games that are waaaaay too hard, but sometimes with practice I can defeat them.

Sometimes I just give up. Never finished GTA:SA for that reason. Mario Hoops 3v3, as I told KN: hard mario hoops is haaaaaaaard.

Ninjas should not be allowed to play basketball.

I broke my first laptop's screen because of it.

I forgot what game I was playing, but it was really pissing me off. I started to smash my controller against my bed (I play in my room), and accidently hit my laptop.

STOP now add to this unwieldy controls, and now you are me......
I hate it its pointless and distracts from the game look at Mario sunshine and thos stupid jump zones that are part of the "normal" level.
they can add all the stupid hardcore stuff as a OPTION makeign it part of the game...is just annoying....devs are all abotu NO options now adays....they make games like movies one "stamp" at a time...

I personally LOVE the really insanely hard parts of game. They make me invent new, creative swear word combination and teach me to completely ABHOR a certain aspect of a game, until I beat it.

Then I feel so damn good my muscles can take 4-5 minutes to relax from their state of inhuman tension from before.

if you look tension up in the dictionary there'd be a pic of you,I'd be under asinine, stupid or as a example of grammar(IE anyone but me) .

I will admit that I do love the challenge of difficult games, but I'll also agree that inconsistent difficult within the same game can be terribly frustrating.

But hell, at least it is better than the old days....now we have save points all over the place in most games. I remember blowing through whole levels in Mega Man only to get stomped in 5 seconds by the boss and have to start the whole level all over. Maddening!!

Usually if you get squashed by a boss it means you should go get some other boss' super power.

It took me 10 years, yes, ten whole years, to figure out.

I personally hate the.

Start a very minimal tut, then play though the game which is easy. easy. VERY FREEKING HARD! easy. easy. easy. VERY FREEKING HARD. easy.

Then fight the final boss, who just so happens to be... easy.

There really is no scaling, no way to practice at all in most games, or ways to train. Things tend to be only easy or VERY FREEKING HARD! in games theses days.

Super Mario Bro at least built up to the point of hardness, still no way to really train that well, but it did allow you to become better gradually rather then in leaps and bounds. Tetris on the other hand, thats a game that had a very nice curve to it, and kinda allowed you to practice more.

Final fantasy 7 though... Most of that game was easy, until a few points, mostly in boss battles or fields with high level monsters. The hardest points came from Ruby and Emerald weapons... Seph was a weakling comparied to them. I really hate when the last boss tends to be much weaker then the one before it or some of the optional minibosses. (okay not so much the optional stuff, but if the guy before the final boss makes me spend weeks to defeat him and the final guy takes five minutes... something be wrong.)

its pretty much all about patterns and weaknesses I always knew about the weaknesses the patterns took getting use to.

it depends on the game and how well it flows Mario sunshine drives me crazy with the must complete jump zones these should be optional places because of the difficulty but nnooooo

anyway abotu the ruby and Emerald weapons are optional insanely hard to kill hidden bosses not part of the game,I recall the last boss or near to the last boss of legaia 1 its like hitting a MMO wall it was so overpowering put me off of the game...need to play it again sometime *L*

I think the better quality of the game the less you mind the over the top monsters and bosses the more frustrating and annoying the game the more you say to the hell with it.
