The problem with used computer games, and probably the reason why they dont take them anymore, is because of CD-keys. Once that CD-key is used, you have to jump through hoops to get it deactivated so that you can use it on your comp, if you can even do that at all. Happened to me with a used Copy of Half-Life and Halo. Bought them used, but they both required CD-Keys and since both of them were registered already, it essentially made the game useless.

Only a few games like Guild wars have that 90% of games still have a simple key system where all you need is the key to install and enjoy the game rarely do you have to register and setup a account.
So heres the real reason
1. to prevent piracy thats their main cry when they forbid the saleing of all used games in their retail chains then while they are marking up online sellers will get a boon....
2.to not be hassled with checking if the game it is one of the 20(including console) that have to be registered for like say I dunno....
FF11 or PSO or any other MMO on the consoles
3.to further pervert users from trading in games and buying cheaper ""used" ones...
come on theres only 2 or 3 more titles that have to be registered for over the console games to call this anything other than being cheap and evil is to jsut not see the real world.....

I contest that occurring with Halo for PC. The single player game should work fine regardless of the cdkey. It only throws you an error if you try to enter a mulitplayer game with another player who is already using the same cdkey.

I see this as pading new game sales pading game sales of games they cant get rid of more of having a sliver to do with care for the consumer...

There's also the piracy laws regarding PC games. In alot of cases someone may have a CD crack or say a virtual drive and install the game, use the CD crack to run it, and return the game, claiming it didn't work. It happened at a Babbage's a long time ago during the floppy era. A guy was installing games on his and his friend's PCs and returning the disks. He deprived the store of up to 500 dollars of sales before he was busted. The dishonest ruin it for the innocent.

so? theres already plenty of no return/swap only for same game rules in palce there is no need to remove used PC games.

Even so ,that won't stop a person from abusing a policy to get free games.

If it's to curb piracy, it makes sense. I think I've seen a few used PC games myself, but hey, I'm canadian, we do things differently.

oh please thats the last thing on there mind they are more interested in not selling used, thus they don't have to stock it thus they can sell more new and discounted new games, whining about keys is...just sad....

actually it wont even let me install it without the CD-key, unless theres a way around this that i am missing

this is why the CD key is needed but genaraly comes with the box or the manual,if you lack the box/case for any game regardless PC or console they wont take it so should be able to handle checking to make sure the key is with the game. its like OMG a PC game check for key no key no takey.
while piracy is their main bitch this comes down to just not wanting to check and see if the game has the key with it because it wastes less than a minute and all that time could be spent on hitting on females that wonder by or organizing the games since most people cant seem to put them in the right place and that includes some staff,in the end they never liked it and at least with computer games they don't have to deal with used anymore....I bet in 10 years they wont sell used games either....because they are not up to their standards...then they can sale re manufactured games that have gone thru poor recertification and are marked up 40% over old used game price......
