I got DDO from a friend of mine on Saturday, I just started playing on Sunday and currently I am a level 2 Halfling Ranger, hoping to multiclass Ranger/Rouge. Anyone else on here play the game? I am hoping someone does, I am the the Thryzak(god I can't spell it) it is one of the newer ones. If anyone is on that server and wants to team up for a few quests let me know :)

Well i dont play it because its not much like DnD anymore to me... More like the diet cola of DnD. Just one calorie, not geeky enough.
But it is different the most MMOs out there. Heavily relies on actions of the player to successed. But in the end all you need is a team of cleric/rogues to beat any challage in the game, as apposed to having just any character class.
They did do away with the holy trinity, replaced by the godly dou (clerics/rogues) This is because you will find traps. And the rogue has to be compleatly maxed out to deal with traps or he will fail his job. (locks also)
Before a rogue used to be the best in the game, due to thier ability to take out traps and avoid combat through sneeking. But if he failed to make a hide check he was screwed, or if undead suddenly appeared.
Since the developers of the game didnt like how it was balanced out before, they started to make it harder for the rogue. Of course I'm all for making stealth... well.. stealthy. However they kneejerked and cut corners as all MMOs do. Now if the rogue touches anything *poof* no longer hiding and they get raped by monsters.
Now of course we all know if anything about dnd, that Rogues dont do good against undead. We know that clerics own the undead. Appertly turbine didn't know this fact as well...
So when they made a bunch of gaveyard quests (because the rogue cant sneek attack undead like everything else) They forgot the clerics ability to turn them. Once again, they did the normal MMO thing and halved the clerics turning ability. If you know anything about table top, that means the 2d6 + lvl would now be 1d6 + level. Doesnt seem like it would make much of a differance, except when you look at a level 1 character would pretty much fail at turning a group of monsters. at the low end he would have a 2hd and at highest he would have 7. As aposed to the 3-13hd they normally have. Trust me, its a big differance.
And its not that DnD cannot make a MMO. the AOL version of NWN was the first graphical MMO.
There was a lot of empty promises made to us, and it ended up making me hate the game, dispite also wanting to play it. (like being able to use skills to avoid combat. Instead they turned around and made it so you HAVE to fight everything by locking you into the rooms till everything is killed. )

How do you feel about the introduction of MP?
frankly I love it if baldure gate had MP it would have ruled but the whole sleeping for magic made the game evil thos timed quests were hell.....minc went beresk on me at least 3 times....

And now DnD 4.0 has the super monks, which is why I prefer Generic Destinies (http://www.freewebs.com/fatealerion/gd/gdsetup.htm).
...Oh wait, you mean the version where the computer does all the work. My bad.

Yeah there are alot of things they changed from the 3.5 pen and paper game to make it more of an MMORPG, now from what I have been playing I have noticed a couple things that made me question something but then decided not to care. Yeah the HD at level one makes it seem like you have a +20 Constitution Modifier but if you look at the game you have to wonder who other than the DnD buffs would accept going into a dungeon with 8hp? Not many people, I think they took the DnD fans into mind but needed to make it easier for the normal people to play as well. I haven't had a hard time with the whole Sneak/Hide stuff, but then again I am a halfling in the game with +sneak items so I am like the ****ing Solid Snake of DnD, but I have seen people in pt's get raped because they failed a hide check. With the undead and the clerics yeah halfing the turning to 1D6+level was a weak, oh look you turned one skeleton....out of 20 attacking you. The one problem I have with the game are the drops, just saying I should not find A helm of Steady Spellcasting(+4 to Concentration Checks), Master Work Breast Plate, Masterwork Warhammer, MasterWork Repeating Crossbow all in a level 2 dungeon, though the leveling system is rather odd, you need 5 ranks to get to level 2 so your level looks like Level 1(Rank4) and so on, though seeing as I have heard that level 12 is the max level at the moment they did this so people like me wouldn't be level 12 in a day.
I was sad because Monk and Druid are not in the game, but then again with their system Monk would kill everything 20 times before hitting the ground. Anyone who has played a Monk in 3.5 knows how godly they become as they level.
Aside from a few problems I have had with the game, I still enjoy it. Everyone I have partied with are fellow DnD nerds and the voice chat feature can lead to some very funny moments. And playing a game wher people know how to play the game makes me very happy. I guess playing DnD for so many years has trained me how to sneak and what to attack what monsters with what weapons. Just 400 more xp and I can become (Ranger/Rouge)

well the +20 hp i don't care about. Since yeah, 8hp sucks. Nor do i care about thier spell point system except the fact that monsters have infinate sp. Both of those i see as nesscarry changes to make it a little more friendly, Its the stuff like no-twf hot keys, the nerfs the made towards skills...
Things like instead of elemental protection, they make 1 protection for each elemental.
Oh and halfings in DDO are the god characters till you can get drow. In pnp you got -2 str, 3/4 carrying (not all that hard to keep under since so many no weight collectables are there.) and 20 feet movement, and can only use smaller weapons.
Here on the other hand - 2 str and 3/4 carry ability.
Meanwhile the warforged who are freeking robots are drowning, getting poisioned and being owned by rust elementals. I just cant wait till druids come out with rusting grasp and all thier anti-tec spells.
Oh and yeah the drops. The drops are way out of wack because you find lots of tresure in other MMOs so Turbine tried to say 'us too!' IMO they needed to expand sideways rather then just up. Things like rusty swords with poison effects, but harder to hit/deal damage or something. Its the reason so many things had to get nerfed.

I never got why Warforge drown, in the table top game they don't need to breath, thus they can move underwater without the risk of death. They are immune to most natural poisons but yeah a rust monster will kill them without a second thought. I keep seeing adds on website saying there is PVP in the game, where do I have to go for that other than the arena in the pub? Hell I was laugh with everything I was hitting while dule weilding. I am sorry I should have a -4 -6 penalty for only having the Two weapon fighting feat and using a scimitar and a MW LongSword, neither of which are light weapons so my off hand would get a -6 to hit.

No its not like Wow…
Wow, despite all of its so-called glory, is still the generic mmo that relies on ‘eat a sandwich’ style combat. If you tried to eat a sandwich while playing DDO you will either drop the sandwich or do very poorly, since it is a ‘twitch’ game. (though I find that ‘twitch’ games challenge you harder then the ‘Non-twitch’ games.)

Like FF11 no AI to help you push buttons or do basic melee combat....

Nope. Still not close enough. Think more of Prince of Persia – the flipping stuffs.
If the enemy swings a sword at you and you push away from it, the enemy misses if they never make contact. You can turn on the ‘eat a sandwich mode’ in a way, but you still need both hands to move, dodge, aim and stuff.
I would play this game infact because it really wasn’t too terrible, but after some of their first nerfs I decided against it.

is it less restrictive than FF11?

I dunno what you mean.
After a goblin could hit me from 15 freeking feet away and i wasnt even close enough to hit him from five feet, i quit the game.

In FF11?
Ya the collision and range it off the weapon reqs is off the deleveling and screw of equipment and such is off the non sale/trade of mini quest items is off and the more you play it the more its off....
combat pissed me off tho you have a narrow field of vision on the AI and it can not track targets IE keep up with them and the AI on the monsters is evil they can find you no matter where you may be......why do people play this game? 0_o
it took me 2 months to figure out there was no redeeming vaule to the game.
COH as painful as it is kinda fun.
