Since the ESRB is doing a better job on games than the MPAA is doing with movies politicians have 2 choices hands off or censorship, cant be hands off because of vote pandering cant censor games alone,if you then censor all media for the protection of youth then what country are we going to be in,it will not be the USA.if we are so “protective” of our youth why the hell not do what holland dose and ban all advertisings to kids ?why because this the USA thats why people even kids have they right to screw themselfs up with parental guidance its one of the many freedomes we hold dear….you cant do jack about it unless you change the USA into the EU where the goverment rules almost completely…

The most I can see the government doing is creating a board like the FCC that can fine and investigate matters involving the selling of age rated material to underage people but even that is is akin to McCarthyism…its one thing to censor what goes over the free air waves its another to censor what you buy.

besides bitch about it for votes and waste tons of money or change the constitution what can they do?

From my post here.

Sorry Zippy, I'm gonna relocate this thread to a more appropriate forum. We try to keep the gaming threads relegated to their respective forums, since this is a gaming/politics site, so Off-Topic is bsaically, non-game-related politics, and anything else that doesn't have anything to do with games.

Thats exactly what they want to do. They dont like where this society is and is going to go. This is especially true with the older generation who thinks its their duty to clense society. Similiar occurances have happened previously in many of the reform movements in the Unites States, including the First and Second Great Awakenings. Back then it was a backlash against growing secularlism and a lack of piety in society as a whole. This is very similiar to the current situation where the 'holy' seek to rub off a little of thier godliness on society.

If they could, they WOULD change America into somethign they viewed as 'proper'. However, just like the forces of secularism before it, this continue evolution of soceity is not something that can be stopped. All they can hope to do is put in its way legislation that can slow it down, and unless somethign changes radically, they will eventually fall.

Now remember this is if nothing changes, many times in history some surprise discovery or comment could rally the population (remember that America as a whole is largely Christian) and counter the changes for a sizable period. Although I dont think something like this can happen, its really all they can hope for. Hell, the 3rd Great Awakening could actually happen, who knows. But notice how in both those cases they failed in forever changing society.
